Hike Your Own Hike

Day: 34 (April 28)
Starting location: Sugar Mountain
Ending location: Upper Laurel Fork
Miles today: 12.6
Miles total: 401.0

After a great stay in Sugar Mountain, we again set out on the trail. At the trailhead we ran into Day Tripper and Thunder. It was so good to see them and we hadn’t seen them since our stay in Hot Springs. One thing about the trail is you can very easily loss track of people. The saying on the trail is, “Hike Your Own Hike.” To be successful on thru hiking the AT, you can’t be concerned with what other people are doing. This means oftentimes sticking to your own schedule and hiking your on hike.

This day ended with us camping with Day Tripper, Thunder, Stud Muffin, and Dry Clean. They have quickly become our most favorite people on the trail. We had a great time sitting around the campfire and lighting our pack load by drinking all of our spare moonshine.

Trying to get the fire started!
