Deja Vu

Day: 70 (June 3)
Starting location: Big Meadows Campground
Ending location: Not sure
Miles today: 23.1
Miles total: 938.5

Last night we stayed at Big Meadows Campground which brings back a lot of memories for us. Kristen and I actually did our first day hike out of Big Meadows last April. I can remember it very well because we didn't have the slightest idea what we were doing. We didn't have sleeping bags or pads so we resorted to using huge blankets. We didn't even have backpacks so we used our old high school backpacks. I even remember trying to start a fire that never seemed to start. Yes we certainly have come a long way in just a years time.

Last night we had some racoons visit our campsite. One of the racoons actually took Nanerpuss's tortillas from right under his head in the middle of the night. It was funny listening to the story of him chasing a racoon around in the middle of the night. Now how did the racoon get into his tent you may ask. Well at this point in our journey, people are taking to lighten their pack weight in anyway they can. Remember, weight is everything to long distance backpackers. So like many other thru hikers, Nanerpuss has ditched his normal tent for a tarp tent. A tarp tent is simply a tarp that will shelter you from the elements but is completely open. So needless to say the racoon just reached under the tarp and grabbed the tortillas. Kristen and I will not be getting a tarp tent.

Today we did some big miles to make our day tomorrow a little easier into Front Royal. We are both ready for a few days off in Washington, DC this weekend. Goodnight...the whipperwills are really loud tonight.

We regularly go through tunnels of Mountain Laurels

We happened to run into this hut just as a severe thunderstorm rolled through. Kristen is checking out the weather
