I Want Food

After a lazy morning, we managed to get a ride into downtown Waynesboro from a lady that we met in the hotel lobby. She was very nice and actually gave us a 30 minute tour of the area and explained the history behind the town. It is worth mentioning that everyone in Waynesboro has been very nice and helpful to us. The truth is, the entire south has been so friendly and the people have regularly gone out of their way to help us out. Kristen and I will be a little sad when we cross the Mason Dixon line in about 2 weeks. We hope that they people in the north will be just as accomodating.

After three nights in a comfortable bed, we were beginning to feel a bit spoiled. So we decided to take advantage of the tenting available at the local YMCA. It cost three dollars to tent and have full access to the entire facility which included an indoor pool. As we later found out, a local resident made arrangements with the YMCA to cover the cost of tenting for all AT thru hikers. Just another random act of kindness.

After a long swim in the YMCA pool, we made our way over to the Chinese buffet called Ming Garden. It may seem that Kristen and I mention food a lot in our entries. The truth is, we can't carry enough food in our packs to replenish the calories that we burn on a daily basis. Needless to say, when we get into town we can eat anything we want and as much as we want. Now, the Ming Garden has the reputation has being the best buffet on the trail and it didn't disappoint. It is tough to give it justice...but here we go....it had all types of traditional chinese dishes, all types of sushi, snow crab legs, shrimp, scallops, ribs, mac & cheese, salad, pizza, chicken nuggets, onion rings, oysters, ice cream, cookies, brownies, and the list goes on and on. Despite all our eating, we have already both lost about 20 pounds.
