Rocks, Rocks, Rocks

Day: 93 (June 26)
Starting location: George W. Outerbridge Shelter
Ending location: Leroy A. Smith Shelter
State: PA
Miles today: 16.7
Miles total: 1,264.2

Pennsylvania has definitely been our least favorite state. The rocks have really begun to wear us down mentally. People often say that the trail is more challenging mentally than it is physically and Pennsylvania has definitely proven this to be true. The terrain is relatively flat but the rocks make finding a sure footing almost impossible. After watching your every step for an entire day, you are mentally drained.

The one thing that Pennsylvania has going for it is wild fruit. Kristen and I were eating wild blueberries all day today. The blueberry bushes were literally the border of the trail for miles. We also saw our 2nd bear today. It saw us before we saw it and it scampered down the side of the mountain about 50 yards away.

We can't wait to see Kristen's parents tomorrow. We are really looking forward to a day off.
